Senior Field Service Technician

Department:  PEAK Professional Services

Reports To:  Field Service Manager

Location:  Corvallis, Oregon with daily travel to various remote sites

Pay Rate:  $22-$28/hr

PEAK is a utility owned carrier class Internet Services Provider that demands high nines reliability 24X7X365. We currently serve 12,000 end users with a mix of DSL, non-licensed wireless (2.4/5.3/5.8), dedicated Ethernet, colocation, various hosted platforms and dial-up. We are currently involved in 2 City Wi-Fi initiatives. We are looking to enhance our core service offerings and expand further into the enterprise markets. At PEAK, we have no technical bias on hardware and software and adopt the “best of breed” principal when designing an application or service. This is a “hands on” leadership position.

Job Summary and Principal Duties:

The SFST is responsible for the following:

  • Sales, installation, maintenance, and upgrades of desktop computers, servers, networks, office and AV equipment for small and medium sized businesses
  • Recommending equipment and software to fit the customer needs
  • Preparing detailed customer contact and infrastructure documentation
  • Assisting PEAK infrastructure engineers and support personnel in various tasks as required

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a high stress, multiple priority job
  • Extensive knowledge of PC’s, network hardware, network topology, operating systems, software, printers, gateways, routers, SAN/NAS, tape backup, UPS, patch panels, and broadband protocols
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting and supporting various kinds of IT equipment
  • May require long hours, nights and weekend work
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical people
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects with multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Well developed, professional written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a team
  • Ability to effectively establish rapport and present information to staff and customers
  • Excellent prioritization and multitasking skills
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent deductive reasoning and problem solving skills
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 70+ pounds
  • Must have a clean driving record and be able to pass drug screening
  • Must have valid Oregon Drivers License

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field or comparable experience.
  • Minimum 4 years experience in Systems Engineering or IT
  • Minimum 2 years experience with high availability networks
  • MCSE, MCITP, MCSA and/or CCNP strongly desired, but not a mandatory requirement.
  • Proficiency in the following technologies and services:
    • In depth knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems and server administration and/or;
    • In depth knowledge of Windows Systems including Active Directory and Exchange 2003/2007
    • Network design, maintenance and implementation
    • Network and system security with firewalls, VPN’s and routers
    • Cisco Switches and Routers, configuration
    • VoIP, PABX/IP-PABX
    • Security packages and appliances Cisco Pix, Watchgaurd firewalls, Snort IDS systems, nessus security scanner, ethereal sniffers.
