Configuring Apple Mail
New pop account on vmail01.peak.org
|
If there are no accounts configured in Apple Mail, when you start it, it will force you into the wizard; just click Continue:
If you do have some accounts already configured, start by going into Preferences/Accounts and click on + in the lower left to get into the new account wizard:
Either way, in the General Information window that pops up, select "POP" for Account Type. The Account Description can be anything you like to identify it, but probably just using the email address is the clearest. The Full Name will show up in your outgoing mail along with the email address, and of course, your email address is the important part to fill in here, then click Continue:
In the Incoming Mail Server screen, fill in vmail01.peak.org for the incoming mail server, and your mailbox email address for the user name. Note that this may not be the email address you actually use, particularly if you have a private domain address forwarded to one of the Peak owned domains. If you're not sure, our support people can clarify the situation for you. Finally, do not enter your password here. For some reason, Apple decided to have it verify the account before configuring security information, so will try to login insecurely at this point. Fortunately, a successful login isn't required at this point for their wizard to proceed, so just click Continue here:
It will spin circles for a moment, then comlain that it couldn't login:
Now it asks about securing the connection. Check Use Secure Sockets and make sure Authentication is set to Password, then click Continue.
Next, we do the same thing all over again for the outgoing server: set the outgoing mail server to vmail01.peak.org, check Use Authentication, set the username to the email address of your actual mailbox, but do not enter a password. It does the same type of insecure verification here as it did before --- just click Continue:
It will complain again, just click Continue:
And then we get the outgoing security setup; check SSL and select Password authentication again, then click Continue:
This almost finishes us up, first it shows a summary of what you configured:
Click Continue on the summary, and you will get the Conclusion page. Just click Done, and you'll be returned to Apple Mail:
One last thing: due to an additional screen to block spam, we need to make one change that Apple doesn't let us do in the wizard. Go back to Preferences:
Click on Server Settings under Outgoing Mail Server, and then change the Server port from 25 to 587:
Now click OK and close the Preferences window and you're all ready to go!
