Configuring Outlook Express
New imap account on vmail01.peak.org
|
To configure Outlook Express for a new IMAP account on vmail01.peak.org, first start up Outlook:
Go into the Tools/Accounts menu:
Select the Mail tab:
and click Add, then Mail:
First, enter in your name as you want it to appear in your email and click Next:
Next, enter your email address and click Next:
Then, select the type of server as IMAP, and enter vmail01.peak.org as the incoming and outgoing servers, then click Next:
Outlook will default to just the username part of your email address for the account name; you need to add the domain back in to make the full email address of your mailbox. Note that this may not be the email address you actually use, particularly if you have a private domain address forwarded to one of the Peak owned domains. If you're not sure, our support people can clarify the situation for you. Also, make sure that Secure Password Authentication is unchecked --- we use a different method to secure your connection, which will be setup later. We highly recommend that you uncheck Remember password (it's more secure, as otherwise anyone with access to your box can read your email, and probably more importantly, entering your password every time helps you remember it). Finally, click Next to continue:
Congratulations! You're finished! Well, not quite, we still need to secure the connection, so click Finish:
This takes you back to the Internet Accounts window, now with your new account listed. Click on it, then on Properties:
Click on the Servers tab, and check My server requires authentication for the Outgoing Mail Server:
Click on Settings and verify that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is checked, then click OK:
Now, click on the Advanced tab and check This server requires a secure connection for both incoming and outgoing mail, and change the Outgoing mail port to 465 --- 25 is the default, but is blocked to provide another level of spam protection. Note that checking the box resets the port to 25, so you need to make the change after checking it. The IMAP port should default to the correct value, 993. And that's it, click OK and you're ready to go:
This will return you to the Internet Accounts window, close it and Outlook will pop up another window asking if you want to download folders from the new server, go ahead and click Yes to test the account setup:
It will ask for your password (if you didn't let it remember it earlier), enter it and click OK:
Outlook will present you with a list of folders in the new account, just click OK, and you're all set:
